At Smart Tech Upcycled, we stand behind the quality of our refurbished laptops and computers. Each device is professionally tested and restored to ensure functionality. This Warranty Policy sets out what is and isn’t covered.

Warranty Period

  • All refurbished laptops and computers come with a 12-month warranty (unless otherwise stated).
  • The warranty period begins from the date of purchase.

What Our Warranty Covers

Our warranty covers functional defects that prevent the device from operating as intended, including:

  • Hardware failures (e.g., motherboard, RAM, storage drives).
  • Screen/display faults (not caused by physical damage).
  • Battery faults only if the battery is completely non-functional (e.g., will not charge or power the device at all) within the warranty period.
  • Other operational defects arising under normal use.

What Our Warranty Does Not Cover

The warranty does not cover:

  • Batteries with reduced capacity – all batteries naturally lose runtime with age and use. Reduced performance, such as holding less than 80% charge, is not covered.
  • Cosmetic wear and tear (scratches, dents, scuffs, or other aesthetic imperfections).
  • Accidental damage (drops, liquid damage, misuse, or neglect).
  • Software issues (including viruses, corrupted programs, or customer-installed software).
  • Third-party repairs or tampering carried out without our approval.
  • Accessories, chargers, or peripherals unless otherwise specified as covered.

Your Rights Under Australian Consumer Law

This warranty is provided in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL).

  • You are entitled to a replacement or refund if the product has a major failure.
  • For minor issues, we will repair or replace the device within a reasonable timeframe.

How to Make a Warranty Claim

  2. Our team may ask for photos, videos, or troubleshooting steps.
  3. If approved, we will provide return instructions.
  4. Once the device is inspected, we will repair, replace, or refund in line with this policy and ACL requirements.

Repairs, Replacements & Refunds

  • If the device can be repaired, we will arrange a repair at no cost.
  • If repair is not possible, we may replace the device with the same or an equivalent model.
  • If neither is available, a refund will be issued.
  • Refunds will be processed to the original payment method.

Shipping Costs for Warranty Claims

  • If the device is confirmed to have a fault covered by this warranty, Smart Tech Upcycled will cover return shipping costs.
  • If the device is found to be working as intended, or the fault is outside warranty coverage, the customer may be responsible for return shipping.
